The pUKEs are a nearly all-female punk ukulele group based in London. We play songs by the likes of Dead Kennedys, Exploited, Xray Spex, The Clash, etc like you never heard ‘em before – as well as our own original tunes. There were about 18 of us last time we counted.
We first started meeting in January 2011 at our local pub, the Royal Sovereign, to have a few pints and bash out our favourite tunes on the ukulele. But we soon found ourselves in demand, playing gigs and festivals around the UK.
Around half The pUKEs were ‘non musicians’ before we learned the uke, others have been in bands such as The Ramonas, Infa Riot, PMT, Lost Cherrees and Rabies Babies.
We released our debut EP on Damaged Goods records in 2013 and this year we’ve released our album Too Drunk To Pluck on our own label, Hoo Ha.
