The pUKEs are a ukulele anti-society for punks based in London. We play songs by the likes of Dead Kennedys, Exploited, Xray Spex, The Clash, etc like you never heard ‘em before.
We first started meeting in January 2011 at our local pub, the Royal Sovereign, to have a few pints and bash out our favourite tunes on the ukulele. But we soon found ourselves in demand, playing gigs, festivals and punks picnics in London and beyond.
We’ve been lucky enough to share a bill with many of the bands who inspired us, including Sham 69, UK Subs, Vice Squad, Bad Manners, Chelsea, Menace, Subhumans and Splodge.
Around half The pUKEs were ‘non musicians’ before we learned the uke, the others have been in bands such as UK Subs, Extreme Noise Terror, Noise Agents, PMT, Lost Cherrees, Rabies Babies, Social Schism and the Triads.
