Tanglewood TUC1E

With a sleek satin mahogany body and neck and rosewood fingerboard, this cutaway electro soprano is a great looker. It has a nice easy action and the cheeky cutaway is dead handy for rocking out on the top frets. Acoustically, it was much improved with a set of decent Aquila strings and it stays in tune well. The pre-fitted pickup is, well, a bit crap, so an EQ pedal is required to boost the signal for louder gigs. The passive tone control must be turned up full on the bass or it sounds tinny and there’s little point in having the volume at anything other than full blast. Placed at the budget end of the market, it’s not bad value, but if you need to be LOUD (which, let’s face it, you do) you’ll probably be looking for a uke with a more powerful preamp and pickup.
